Jan Lukas Bürgel completed his mechanical engineering studies at the Ruhr University Bochum with a focus on materials and microengineering. He obtained his bachelor's degree in 2021, followed by a master's degree in 2024. As part of his master's thesis at the Chair of New Materials and Interfaces, he investigated multinary materials with regard to their application as electrocatalysts.
Since mid-2024, he has been working on his doctorate in the research group of Prof. Dr.-Ing. As part of the ERC-DEMI project, he is investigating electrocatalysts with a focus on their activity and stability in the oxygen reduction reaction - a central process in hydrogen fuel cells. His research concentrates primarily on multinary materials in the form of solid solutions.
