Patrick Marx studied mechanical engineering with a specialization in materials and microengineering at the Ruhr University Bochum, where he obtained his Bachelor's degree in 2021 and his Master's degree in 2023. He wrote his bachelor's thesis at the Chair of Laser Application Technology on the topic of “Improving surface roughness by laser polishing in a laser melting system”. In his Master's thesis at the Chair of New Materials and Interfaces, he investigated phase formation in multinary layer systems.  At the beginning of 2024, he began his doctorate, in which he is working on the investigation of structural and functional properties of cobalt- and lanthanum-cobalt-based oxide systems for use as catalysts as part of CRC/TRR 247.
