Natalia Pukhareva studied Materials Science at the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute) in Moscow, focusing on materials for nuclear alternative power engineering and the radiation effects in nuclear materials. She obtained her Bachelor's degree in 2021, where she developed a liquid-phase alloying method for zirconia alloy claddings using high-temperature pulsed plasma flows. In 2023, she completed her Master’s studies with a focus on developing Fe-Cr-Al protective coatings for nuclear fuel rod claddings by magnetron sputtering.
From 2021, Natalia worked at MEPhI in the Laboratory of Ion-beam and Plasma Treatment of Materials, concentrating on protective coatings and corrosion resistance of nuclear fuel rod claddings in hydrothermal and high-temperature environments.
In 2023, she joined the A.A. Bochvar High-Technology Research Institute of Inorganic Materials, where her research focused on corrosion resistance of fuel rod claddings for advanced reactor technologies.
Since May 2024, Natalia has been pursuing her doctorate in the group of Prof. Dr. Alfred Ludwig as part of the CRC 1625 project at MDI RUB. Her research is dedicated to noble-metal-containing compositionally complex solid solution electrocatalysts, with an emphasis on understanding their activity in the hydrogen evolution reaction.
